 Rainy's was founded in 1971 by Rainy Riding. Rainy began fishing with flies on a spin cast rod with her grandfather at age 5. She has always maintained her passion for fly fishing. Shortly after Rainy was married she became a secretary to Art Jones (adjunct professor for USU Extension classes). One evening he called her in a panic. Too many had signed up for his fly tying class. Rainy was given the challenge of learning how to tie flies with in a 1/2 hour notice so that she could teach half the class. Rainy exuded a natural ability and keen interest in the art of fly tying. Each subsequent week she learned more fly patterns and continued to teach half the class. She has been a gifted fly tying instructor ever since.

Over 40 years later, with a lot of hard work and good associates along the way, Rainy and her business partner Ellen Clark run a multi-national fly tying business leading the industry with the highest quality flies and cutting-edge innovation.

Fly fishing humbles us. It leads anglers to believe we are equal parts super hero and insignificant organism. It allows us to value the progression of cutting-edge technologies while taking joy in worn wading boots, entry-level pickup trucks, river-temperature beers, and afternoons trying to chase skunk off the boat. We at Scientific Anglers believe in a facilitation of the two, an ability to provide consumers with the best products available while enabling them to enjoy the simple, and often best, aspects of our sport.

Scientific Anglers began with three men (Leon P. Martuch, Clare Harris, and Paul Rottiers) and a single vision, transposed into a company spanning across the globe, influencing the way modern fly fishermen interpret and practice our sport. The cast, the rods, the reels, and the flies all connect through the cotter pin of fly fishing: fly line. Scientific Anglers became the unequivocal champion of fly-line production through leading market innovation and development during fly fishing’s early widespread industrialization.

Numerous editorials have been penned regarding the physics of fly fishing and the impact of polymeric coatings, evolutionary taper structure, core construction, complex density, and fluid dynamics. At the base of these arguments is a single common denominator: Scientific Anglers. We have implicitly initiated a majority of these arguments by facilitating the development of industry-leading technologies, a practice that inevitably leads to scrutiny amidst competitors. As we continue to walk one step ahead, our focus dwells on forward progress—a vision and mission which consistently and constantly pushes the technological limits of fly fishing.

 The Thomas & Thomas story, in many respects, is a direct reflection of nearly a half-century evolution in the fly-fishing industry, a tumultuous yet rewarding era of unprecedented social, cultural and technological change. An era that has seen a scientific and environmental renaissance, an awakening in the appreciation of handcrafted quality and unimaginable adoption of our sport.

Established in 1969 by legendary rod builders Tom Dorsey and Tom Maxwell, company ownership evolved over time. Over the years the fundamental beliefs, values and singularity of purpose behind Thomas & Thomas were challenged but never abandoned. To this day, this purpose has kept Tom Dorsey creating the unrivaled Thomas & Thomas fly rods.

And, it is this purpose which first attracted current owner, fly fishing enthusiast and entrepreneur Neville Orsmond. Acquiring the company in 2014, Neville and Tom share more than a common love and passion for creating superior fly rods, they share a vision – the revitalization of the Thomas & Thomas brand.

Towee Boats was founded when a guide with both backcountry flats and river experience came together with one of the country’s most experienced boat builders and began to talk about a skiff that didn’t yet exist.

Towee founder Todd Gregory spent 20 years as both a technical insider and later a consultant to the automotive industry, all the while fishing heavily from his native Tennessee to South Florida. Before making the full time move to The Florida Keys many years ago where he guided both the Keys and Everglades National Park. He eventually returned to Tennessee and spent the next 10 years trailering skiffs back and forth between the shallow, rocky rivers of Tennessee and the skinny flats and marshes of Florida, Louisiana and South Carolina pursuing everything from Tarpon to Musky. It was during this time that he began to see the need for a skiff that did not yet exist; a small, extremely maneuverable skiff that could be poled silently on the flats yet was durable enough for jet boat duty. It could be no more than 52 inches wide yet had to be super stable. It had to be a great rowing skiff and handle big water chop as well – a skiff that he could tow from Idaho to Key West and master every type of water in between.

In 2009, Gregory began working with boat building master Chuck Davis and his family to transform his ideas into reality. The result was the original Towee Rivermaster, the forerunner of today's Calusa. The first production skiffs where built in 2010 and since then, hundreds of demanding owners have sought out the Towee team to build a custom skiff to meet their specific needs. Our skiffs continue to be built one at a time by a team of master boat builders who are also passionate watermen.  Our skiffs are in use by professional guides and hard core anglers and hunters from Alaska to Key West and Canada to Costa Rica.

We have our roots in the Scandinavian fly-fishing tradition. Anglers and the waters they fish in inspire us to create the best hooks possible.
